I am originally from Mexico and have lived in Portland for twenty years. I am fluent in both Spanish and English and incorporate my language and culture into my teaching.
My experience in childcare began when I was just a teenager helping at my aunt’s in-home childcare program. As an adult, I began working in childcare centers where I learned more about different philosophies and approaches for working with young children. I have been an early childhood educator for 13 years now. Most of my experience has been as a lead teacher in infant/toddler classrooms.
I base my work with infants and toddlers on my knowledge of early childhood development and the RIE philosophy. I also have extensive training in PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) and am constantly learning and borrowing from a variety of philosophies to better serve the families and children with which I work.
Originally from a suburb of Philadelphia, I moved to Portland in 2005. I have over 15 years of experience working with children from 6 weeks to 12 years. I have always strived to teach and care for children with respect to foster self-reliance and independence.
Upon moving to Portland, I was introduced to the RIE philosophy. It mirrored many of the things I was already doing like respect for children as individuals and human beings, but I also learned different ways of speaking (e.g. You can do this, rather than you can't do that).
I opened Rock, Paper, Scissors Childcare so that children could learn and grow with guidance and care.
